Mandate and Composition of the BCEPS Steering Group:

• oversee and support the centre's professional development and goal achievement
• facilitate effective collaboration between UiB and BCEPS partners
• ensure anchoring of the centre in the University's strategic focus area for Global Challenges
• be briefed on and provide input to BCEPS’ strategies, overall budget, and plans for the future
• receive and acknowledge financial and progress reports
• provide input to the overall recruitment strategy

The Steering Group is formally appointed by the department board at IGS and has the following composition:

• Head of department, IGS (Chair)
• Two representatives of partners
• One representative of staff
• Two external representatives (observer status)

Steering Group meetings are scheduled to be held once a year, and additionally as a response to specific needs and opportunities. Participation may be in person or digitally. Presence of at least four Steering Group members is required to reach decisions. The Chair of the Steering Group has a double vote if a simple majority is not reached.

Students

BCEPS provides a research environment for students at various stages of study:

  • MD PhD Track Students
    These are students following the Medical Student Research Programme at the University of Bergen. This programme is a special offer to a group of medical and dental students (up to 10 %) who have a special interest in medical and dental research and are willing to do research in parallel with their studies.
     
  • Master's Students
    Most of the Master's students connected to BCEPS are part of the Disease Control Priorities Ethiopia project and are studying for a Master's Degree in Global Health.
     
  • Student Assistants
    BCEPS has several student assistants who contribute to ongoing BCEPS activities.
     
  • PhD Candidates
    BCEPS provides supervision for PhD candidates who are part of the PhD Programme at the Faculty of Medicine. Former PhD Candidates who have completed their PhD studies at BCEPS are listed in the Former Students section below.
