EU Research Funding

Erasmus+

Erasmus+ funds projects that allow researchers to participate in mobility, cooperation, innovation and capacity-building. Researchers and academic staff at universities can apply for grants to study or teach abroad, or to undertake training or research at another organisation.

Hovedinnhold

Erasmus+ is the European Union’s programme for education, training, youth and sport. It offers a range of opportunities for academic staff at universities to teach, train and learn abroad.

Teaching opportunities

See the UiB Erasmus+ Website

Erasmus+ supports teaching periods at higher education institutions abroad. You can spend time teaching at an institution in an Erasmus+ Programme or Partner country. Teaching opportunities are also available to staff working in Programme country organisations, such as businesses, public bodies, research institutes and non-governmental organisations. You can share your knowledge and expertise with students and staff in another country, learn from different teaching methods and practices, and broaden your network and collaboration.

To participate in a teaching period abroad, you need to apply through the Erasmus+ office at UiB. You also need to sign a Mobility Agreement that sets out your learning goals, rights and responsibilities, and how the teaching period will be recognised.

A teaching period between two Programme countries must last a minimum of 2 days and a maximum of 2 months. A teaching period between a Programme country and a Partner country must last a minimum of 5 days and a maximum of 2 months.

You can receive financial support from Erasmus+ to cover your travel and subsistence costs during your time abroad.

Training opportunities

See the UiB Erasmus+ Website

Erasmus+ also supports training periods at HEIs or other relevant organisations abroad. If you work in higher education, you can spend time training or learning at another organisation in an Erasmus+ Programme or Partner country. Training periods can consist of job shadowing, observation periods, professional development courses or specific competence-building events. You can gain new skills and competencies, improve your language and intercultural awareness, exchange good practices and ideas, and enhance your professional network.

To participate in a training period abroad, you need to apply through your home institution, which must hold the Erasmus+ Charter for Higher Education or have signed an inter-institutional agreement with the receiving organisation. You also need to sign a Mobility Agreement that sets out your learning goals, rights and responsibilities, and how the training period will be recognised.

A training period between two Programme countries must last a minimum of 2 days and a maximum of 2 months. A training period between a Programme country and a Partner country must last a minimum of 5 days and a maximum of 2 months.

You can receive financial support from Erasmus+ to cover your travel and subsistence costs during your time abroad.

Jean Monnet Actions

Jean Monnet actions are part of the Erasmus+ programme that supports teaching, learning, research and debates on various aspects of the EU. They aim to foster the study of Europe in its entirety, with particular emphasis on the EU dimension, from an internal but also a global perspective. They also promote active European citizenship and values and deal with the role of the EU in a globalised world.

There are different types of Jean Monnet actions that you can apply for, depending on your objectives and profile. These are:

  • Jean Monnet Modules: for higher education institutions to offer short teaching programmes or courses on EU issues. They can last between 40 and 60 teaching hours per academic year and can be introductory, specialised or multidisciplinary. They can also be open to other interested groups, such as civil society, local authorities or professionals. Module grants are €30 000.
  • Jean Monnet Chairs: for professors or senior lecturers who hold a teaching post in EU studies at a higher education institution. They must teach a minimum of 90 hours per academic year on EU subjects and carry out additional activities, such as research, mentoring, advising or organising events. Chair grants are €50 000.
  • Jean Monnet Centres of Excellence: for higher education institutions that want to create focal points of competence and knowledge on EU subjects. They must have a Jean Monnet Chair holder as the coordinator and involve other professors and experts in EU studies. Each grant is €100 000.
