Empowering Cultural and Creative Sectors

The Creative Europe Programme is structured into two main strands:

  • Culture: This strand supports initiatives that strengthen the cultural and creative sectors, including projects that promote cross-border cooperation, platforms for emerging talents, and networks that facilitate knowledge exchange.

  • MEDIA: Focused on the audiovisual industry, this strand provides support for the development, distribution, and promotion of European films, television programs, and other audiovisual works.

Additionally, a cross-sectoral strand addresses common challenges and opportunities across these sectors, fostering innovation and collaboration.

Budget:

For the period 2021 to 2027, the Creative Europe Programme has been allocated a budget of €2.44 billion, marking a significant increase from the previous period's €1.46 billion. This enhanced funding underscores the EU's commitment to bolstering the cultural and creative industries

Who is it for?

Creative Europe provides opportunities to enhance research, education, and outreach activities in the cultural and creative sectors. All EU and associated countries organizations that have this in their portfolio can apply. The programme is open to a wide range of participants, including:

  • Cultural and creative organizations

  • Audiovisual entities

  • Non-governmental organizations

  • Public authorities

  • Educational and research institutions

  • Eligibility criteria vary depending on the specific call for proposals.

What discipline is it aimed at?

Creative Europe is particularly relevant for researchers and educators in creative arts disciplines such as visual arts, performing arts, literature, music, architecture, design, fashion, film, television, radio, video games, virtual reality, and augmented reality. These disciplines are covered by Creative Europe's Culture and Media pillars, which support a wide range of projects aiming to:

  • Strengthen the artistic quality, diversity, and circulation of European cultural and creative works
  • Enhance the skills, competencies, and employability of cultural and creative professionals
  • Increase the audience reach, engagement, and participation in European cultural and creative activities
  • Promote social inclusion, intercultural dialogue, and European identity through culture and creativity

New European Bauhaus Initiative:

The Creative Europe Programme also aligns with the New European Bauhaus (NEB) initiative, which reimagines living spaces by integrating sustainability, aesthetics, and inclusivity. Inspired by the historical Bauhaus movement, the NEB seeks to address contemporary challenges such as climate change and the circular economy, aiming for a climate-neutral Europe by 2050. Projects that embody the NEB principles are encouraged to apply for recognition through the NEB Prizes, which celebrate innovative contributions to this vision.
