November’s Best Scientific Image – Selected by Nature

Exciting news is brewing in our research community! We’re thrilled to announce that the work by a researcher at the Tissue Engineering group, Shuntaro Yamada, has been featured as the Best Scientific Image of the Month on Nature.

Nature, a renowned scientific journal, has acknowledged Shuntaro’s exceptional contribution to the field, highlighting the captivating and creative nature of the microscopic image. This achievement is a testament to Shuntaro’s dedication, expertise, and commitment to advancing and disseminating scientific knowledge.

The winning image, a visual masterpiece capturing dental pulp stem cells-derived neural spheroid, is now featured on Nature’s platform as the best scientific image of the month (Image is available from this link).

Stem-cell spheriod.

This is a cluster made of stem cells found in dental culp - the innermost layer of the tooth. These cells are derived from the neurel crest, the part of an embryo that goes on t oform the nervous systemas well as bones in the face and skull. Because they share characteristics with neurel stem cells, dental pulp stem cells could one day find applications in regenerative medicine - including treatments for spinal cord injury or Alzheimr's disesase - says Shuntaro Yamada, a stem cell biolgist and dentist at the Department of Clinical Dentistry at the University of Bergen.
