Hovedinnhold

The Bergen Summer Research School (BSRS) offers PhD candidates and junior researchers an excellent opportunity to work together with internationally renowned scholars on-site in Bergen, Norway.

Participants choose one of six parallel courses offered. The theme for this year's BSRS is "Education 2030 and beyond: Addressing global challenges".

This year, one of the courses offered at BSRS is "Equity and fairness in health - an applied approach", taught by Kjell Arne Johansson, Professor, Department of Global Public Health and Primary Care and Deputy Director of BCEPS, University of Bergen (UiB).

In this course, participants will learn how to evaluate equity in access to health services and fairness in distributions of health outcomes, and to integrate tools for equity concerns and health maximization. The course is divided into two parts:

  • Part 1 will cover theoretical concepts of ethics, equity and fairness as well as health maximization, and how they are applied in global and national health care priority setting.
  • Part 2 will cover hands-on exercises on burden of disease, cost-effectiveness, and use of FairChoices DCP Analytic Tool.

You can read the full course description here.

Participation in the BSRS will be credited by UiB under the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS). For 10 ECTS, participants are expected to write an essay (in the form of a publishable manuscript of 10-20 pages), to be submitted after the end of the research school. The deadline for submission will be decided by the course leader. It is also possible to participate without writing an essay, which will give participants 5 ECTS.

The application deadline is 1 February 2024. Apply here.
