Traumatic Dental Injuries Among Adolescents

Hovedinnhold

Traumatic dental injuries are an acute condition causing pain and discomfort. Severe cases of dental injuries can result in the loss of teeth and supporting tissues, affecting the ability to chew, speak, and smile. This has been shown to have a negative psychological effect on oral health-related quality of life.

To prevent dental injuries, knowledge about risk factors is needed. The aetiology of dental injuries is complex, and they often occur when multiple risk factors are present simultaneously.

The study aims to understand the incidence, risk factors, and severity of traumatic dental injuries in 16-year-old students in Hordaland, Western Norway. The study looks at various risk factors associated with dental injuries, including biological, psychosocial, and socioeconomic factors from a 'life course' perspective. By identifying these factors, the study intends to provide insight into the development of targeted prevention strategies and improve treatment approaches for dental injuries.
