Hovedinnhold

Kaja Helvik Skjærven has a special interest in early embryonic development in fish and how development is affected by environmental conditions such as nutrition, temperature, or toxicants. The core focus is on how different environmental conditions change the potential for gene expression through nutrition-based epigenetic changes. The main theme of the work is how nutrients, temperature, or toxicants specifically regulate DNA methylation (epigenetics) intergenerationally (from parents to offspring) and how these changes in gene expression potential (epigenetics) are associated with more traditional biological procedures such as nutrition, physiology, and histological analyses.
