Marte E. S. Haaland

Marte E. S. Haaland is a medical anthropologist and postdoctoral fellow at the Center for International Health, Department of Global Public Health and Primary Care. She has done extensive research on reproductive health and the politics of abortion both in Norway and in global health.

Haaland’s research interests lie at the intersection of health policy, health services, society, and individual experiences. Her scientific work revolves around questions of how health policy intentions and societal values are expressed in individuals' experiences with the healthcare system. Her current research projects also address questions of how research is appraised and given value in the formation of global programs for reducing maternal mortality that span across a range of diverse settings. She has led a government-commissioned research project on Women’s experiences with abortion boards in Norway and is currently a member of the Young Academy of Norway.
