UiB Honorary Doctor receives the annual "Breakthrough Prize"
Honorary Doctor at UiB, Alberto Ascherio, receives the prize for his groundbreaking research on MS.

Honorary Doctor at UiB, Alberto Ascherio, professor of medicine at Harvard, receives the "Breakthrough Prize". The prize is awarded to top American researchers, and he receives the prize for his work linking Epstein-Barr virus infection with the subsequent development of multiple sclerosis (MS).
Ascherio has worked closely with the MS research group at UiB and Haukeland University Hospital. In 2023, he delivered the annual Falch Lecture, and in 2024, he received UiB's honorary doctorate.
