Young Musicians
Hovedinnhold
What is YM (Young Musicians)?
The talent workshop “Young Musicians of the Grieg Academy” is part of Young Musicians, a national talent development programme. It provides particularly talented young people of ages 13-19 with additional opportunities and challenges. YM is a supplementary programme to the music lessons the students take at their local culture school, upper secondary school or privately. The programme was started in 2004 and is developed as a joint project between the public institutions of higher education in music performance. Admission is based on auditions.
What goes on at YM ?
The programme includes individual instrument lessons, group lessons in music theory and aural skills, master classes, interpretation, ensemble and concerts. YM holds at least three of its own concerts each year, but also contributes to others. The students may occasionally participate in class activities together with Grieg Academy students.
When are classes held?
Joint gatherings are primarily held on Saturdays – six in the autumn and seven in the spring – according to the schedule. Individual lessons and ensemble practice are scheduled separately. Students are expected to actively participate and attend punctually.
Who is in it?
For the year 2008-09, 14 young people have been admitted: three on piano, three on violin, one on cello, one on flute, one on trumpet, two on classical vocal, one on jazz vocal, and two on classical percussion.
How to apply:
The workshop will be advertised from February, with an application deadline around 15 March. Auditions are usually held in April, and consist of a ten-minute performance of a self-chosen routine. Information and application form will be available on the website. The Grieg Academy’s region is the counties of Hordaland and Sogn og Fjordane. Admission is usually granted for two years, with the possibility of applying again after two years.
