Epac induces differentiation of human SH-SY5Y neuroblastoma cells
Neuroblastoma cells are typically arrested at an early and immature stage. The stage of neuroblastoma tumor cell differentiation is known to influence patient outcome, with a high differentiation stage correlating to favorable prognosis.

The SH-SY5Y cell line has proven to be an excellent model system to study neuronal differentiation and neuroblastoma tumourigenesis. Unraveling the proteome of this cell line is of great importance to support such studies. In a recent paper published by the Selheim group, we expand the previously reported proteome of the SH-SY5Y cell line with as much as 72.2%. We also present evidence showing that Epac activation induces alteration of protein expression that favors differentiation of human SH-SY5Y cells towards a sympathetic neuronal phenotype.
