Study programmes that the faculty plans to establish must be connected to an academic environment that can demonstrate an active research or artistic development environment within all or part of the study programme’s academic field.
The university may enter into binding agreements on educational cooperation with Norwegian and foreign institutions, in the form of joint degrees or joint study programmes.
Continuing education (EVU) is an important supplement to the university’s core tasks and is designed to further lifelong learning and the development of competence for the workplace and society at large.

Discontinuation of a study programme is subject to the approval of the University Board, and the deadline for submitting applications is the same as for the establishment of new study programmes: 1 April.
