In a 30-minute episode (see link on the right) of The Life Scientific Kathy Willis discusses her early interests in plants and fieldwork, in palaeoecology, conservation biology and biodiversity, and her Galapagos research. In her discussion with Al-Khalili, Kathy explains the concept of ecosystem services, the development of the Local Ecological Footprint Tool (LEFT) in Oxford, the challenges of nature protection in our rapidly changing world, and the progress of the UN Decade of Biodiversity.
Kathy will give a lecture to the The Royal Society in February when she receives the Michael Faraday Medal. Her talk will be "From genes to beans".
Besides her EECRG position, Kathy is Director of Science at Royal Botanic Gardens Kew and Professor of Biodiversity in the Department of Zoology at the University of Oxford.
