Energy Informatics

Hovedinnhold

Energy informatics is an area of informatics concerned with the development and application of modern information and communication technology to address challenges related to sustainable energy production, distribution and saving. Energy informatics is a broad field that utilizes methods from artificial intelligence, machine learning, optimization, internet of things technology, high performance computing, algorithms, computer security, and visualization with applications in energy systems such as wind energy, solar power, energy storage, smart grids, and green data centers.

Our group is particularly interested in green computing, that is adapting computations to efficiently utilise hardware and save energy. For renewable energy, weather prediction is increasingly important. We focus on both improved simulation efficiency and ways to use less simulation and more machine learning and optimization to improve local predictions. In offshore wind production in particular, we are interested in optimization problems in wind farms, machine learning for predictive maintenance and decision-making under uncertainty.
