Children as next of kin

Part-time study at the Centre will provide knowledge of, and understanding of minor children as next of kin of survivors and seriously ill parents or siblings.

The part-time study PSYK647 children as next of kin seek to provide in-depth knowledge of the consequences for children as relatives in the short and long term, the importance of system work, communication and interaction within health and social services and school / kindergarten, as well as measures and interventions to support family function and prevent late injuries.

Through the study, students will acquire in-depth knowledge of, understanding of and readiness for action related to minor children as relatives and survivors of seriously ill parents or siblings - whether this applies to serious somatic or mental illness, drug abuse, injury, accidents or sudden death.

The study is at master's level, and we therefore require that you have a bachelor's degree or comparable basic education in health / social sciences or other relevant subject areas.

The program qualifies for 15 credits and runs part-time over two semesters. Tutoring consists of 4 two-day sessions at UiB, two sessions per semester. The course will be completed digitally in 2021.

The course will be conducted in accordance with UiB's guidelines for infection control. This may involve limited spaces. We will offer digital teaching in real time for students who are affected by travel restrictions. Information about routines and restrictions is published on UiB's website.

The course is only available in Norwegian.
