Webinar series
Webinar 1
Book launch 3 May 2024
The book “EØS-lovgivningen. Fra EU-rett til EØS-rett til norsk rett,” written by Torje Sunde, Jon Lunde, and Ida Sørebø, fills a gap in Norwegian EØS legal literature, particularly aimed at Norwegian administration. The book describes in detail the steps a legal act goes through from the EU until it becomes part of Norwegian law through the EØS agreement. This also includes an introduction to the legal nature and structure of the EØS agreement, as well as the types of safeguards that exist when these legal act procedures do not succeed.

Webinar 2
Conversation about the EEA Review Committee’s report 27 September
In May 2022, 30 years after the signing of the EEA Agreement in Porto in 1992, the Norwegian government appointed an independent committee to review Norway’s experience as a member of the European Economic Area in the 10 years that had then lapsed since the previous such undertaking – the 2012 report of the Norwegian EEA Review Committee of 2010-2012. In the spring of 2024, as the EEA Agreement celebrates its 30th year in force, the EEA Review Committee of 2022-2024 handed its report over to the government.

Webinar 3
A conversation on the future of the single market
2024 has been a year of several seminal reports from the EU. The Letta report on the future of the single market was published in the spring, followed in the autumn by the Draghi report on the future of European competitiveness. Both reports address how the EU can tackle the numerous challenges which the Union now faces. In this conversation, Professor Catherine Barnard from the University of Cambridge, and Deputy Director Mona Næss from the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, highlight key findings of the Letta and Draghi reports, and offer their own thoughts on addressing the challenges ahead.

Affiliated Projects
LaW-BALANCE - Life and Work in Balance: Legal responses to working life in times of change and crisis.
LaW-BALANCE aims to provide a better understanding of the legal framework of working life in transition and develop knowledge on how law can function as an instrument to achieve an inclusive working life and a well-functioning welfare state.
LaW-BALANCE is a four-year project on the legal framework of working life in transition and on the concept of ‘work-life balance’. The project is funded by The Research Council of Norway.

International Social Security Law
The background for the project is the so-called "welfare scandal", where the residence requirements of the National Insurance Act were misapplied concerning travel within the EEA area. The case brought significant attention to the relationship between EEA law and Norwegian social security legislation. The project aims to build critical academic communities at the intersection of EEA law and national social security law through research, teaching, and dissemination.
The project is a collaboration between the three law faculties at the University of Oslo, the University of Bergen, and UiT The Arctic University of Norway. The Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs contributes funding for the project.
