Damaged cards
If the card is broken, demagnetised or worn out, a replacement card will be issued at the Card Centre free of charge. The defective card must be submitted to the Card Centre if you are to get a new card for free.
If you make holes in your student card, the card will not function properly.
The utility of your student card
Access card
The student card acts as an access card to the buildings and premises on the university campus to which the student has rights of access. When swiping your card, most readers will also require a PIN code which is the same as used when logging on to the Student Web (semester registration and exam registration).
If you change your PIN code, your student card will be updated automatically within twelve hours. Note that we are experiencing some issues with this update service. If your card is not updated with the correct PIN code, please contact the Card Centre at kortsenteret@uib.no.
Discounts
In order to obtain discounts, the studentbevisapp or the student card, together with a recipt showing your have paid the student fee for the applicable semester, must be presented.
Library card at the University Library
On the back of the card there is a bar code that automatically gives you access to the University Library’s services when the semester fee has ben paid. It may take 2-3 days from the card has been issued until it works in BIBSYS.
Printing and photo copying access card
The card can also be used for scanning, copying and printouts on the multi function machines and printers at UoB provided money has been paid to a specified account number. See the IT department's websites for more information.
Guidlines for use of your student card
Issuing student cards
When a student card is collected, it is programmed for basic access to the faculty that the student has been admitted to. The card is personal and must not be transferred to or in any other manner entrusted to, or used by anyone other than the person to whom it is issued. When the card is issued, the card holder must supply his/her photo, which is electronically transferred to the card and to studentbevisapp. This information is saved in a register and can be used for the production of replacement cards and for control purposes. If misuse or any other type of irregularity is discovered, UiB may block some or all of the functions to which the card gives access.
The card's validity
The card is valid in combination with studentbevisapp or a receipt showing that the semester fee has been paid. When a student concludes his/her studies at UiB, or does not pay the semester fee, UiB will block the card's functions.
Protecting the card and PIN code
The card holder must ensure that unauthorised persons do not gain access to the card. The personal code must not be given to anyone. The code, which must be memorised, is identical to the access code for the StudentWeb. If the code is written down, it must be done in such a manner that others cannot link the code to use of the student card. The written code must not be kept close to the card.
Reporting a loss of the student card
If the student card is lost or stolen, the Card Centre must be notified immediately. All rights will be stopped. The University of Bergen will demand payment for issuing a replacement student card.
Using the student card
The student card is used electronically or manually (visually) in accordance with the regulations which apply to each of its functions. Some of the functions must first be activated by someone in or at the UiB entity that is responsible for the function. If security concerns make it necessary, UiB can limit the card’s areas of use and make other changes to security procedures or similar functions, notwithstanding the above regulations. UiB must notify the card holder as soon as possible.
Registration of user information
The University of Bergen has electronic access to selected doors and functions in its buildings. This is to protect the lives and health of employees and students, and to protect information and valuables that are important for the operation of the university. Only the cardholder may give consent to see card's the user information log, the only expetion being the Norwegian police if a charge is brought to them concering use of the card. The information saved links the card number to the name of the card owner, time of use and the relevant door/card reader. This information is deleted after 30 days. Only employees working at the Card Centre have access to the stored information.
Responsibility for misuse of student cards
If the card holder has intentionally allowed others to use the student card, this may lead to the loss of rights that the card holder is entitled to and to sanctions pursuant to other regulations, including exclusion from studies or exams.
Complaints about, or corrections of, errors regarding the student card
If the use of the student card has led to an incident, which the card holder believes to be incorrect, he/she is obliged to notify the Card Centre as soon as possible. If UiB so requests, such notification shall be made in writing. UiB shall immediately analyse such complaint or notification of errors and take corrective measures. In cases in which an error has occurred that can be attributed to UiB’s procedures or equipment, UiB shall to a reasonable extent help to ensure that this does not result in significant inconvenience for the card holder.
