Joint working environment survey (FAMU) at UiB
FAMU is the University of Bergen’s work environment survey.

A good work environment is crucial for a positive workday experience. The University of Bergen prioritizes the well-being, health, and necessary tools for its employees to perform their tasks. A well-functioning work environment is part of the HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment) action plan for 2023-2026 at the University of Bergen.
To develop and improve the work environment, it is important to pause and assess and capture how employees perceive their work environment and situation. Therefore, regular work environment surveys are conducted at UiB, including the annual local surveys and a comprehensive survey for the entire UiB every three years.
For the comprehensive work environment survey, UiB uses ARK as a tool and sends out a common questionnaire to all its employees. All UiB employees are expected to contribute to a good work environment and participate by responding to the survey. Managers are responsible for facilitating the survey’s execution.
For 2024-2025, UiB has allowed units to choose from three dates to conduct the work environment survey at their unit:
- 11 November 2024: JUR, ØKA, FIA, HR, IT, KA, SA, EIA & UDIR
- 27 January 2025: MN, UM & SV
- 24 March 2025: HF, PSYK, KMD, MED & UB
Leaders
Leaders are responsible for facilitating the implementation of the survey. They must ensure that all employees at UiB are expected to contribute to a good working environment and participate by responding to the survey.

Employees
Work environment surveys are used to assess and examine the work environment at your unit. The survey gives you as an employee the opportunity to express how you feel at work and how to influence your own work environment.
All employees at UiB are expected to contribute to a good work environment in their units, this time by responding to the work environment survey and participating in its follow-up.
All employees in 40% position or more will receive a questionnaire by email. When your unit receives the questionnaire depends on when the unit has reported that they want to conduct the survey. For this year’s survey, the units have chosen:

Safety representatives
The safety representatives should participate in the preparations for the joint work environment survey (FAMU) at UiB. The role of the safety representatives here is to bring forth the employees’ perspective, contribute to the various parts of the processes, and ensure that the employer follows up on relevant measures after the survey.
In the work with the mapping meeting, the safety representatives should participate in the planning. The mapping meeting is the meeting for all employees where the results of the work environment survey are reviewed.
Furthermore, the safety representatives should participate in filling out the form for summarizing and evaluating the work environment survey together with the leader of their unit. The task of the safety representatives is to ensure that both the management’s and the employees’ perspectives are included.
