Marit Sandberg defended her PhD thesis: "Childbearing in women with congenital heart disease. A nationwide cohort study from Norway 1994-2014”

Marit Sandberg is a gynecologist and has been a research fellow at the Centre for 3.5 years, funded by the Norwegian Women's Public Health Association, with additional funding from “Hjertefondet” at UiB. She has utilized Norwegian register data to gather experiences from pregnancy and birth in 6,000 women with congenital heart disease.
Marit is an outstanding communicator, confirmed by several awards for communication, including the “Researcher Grand Prix” (Forsker Grand Prix) in Bergen on 26 September 2024.
She started the day with an outstanding trial lecture "Cardiovascular diseases in the mother during pregnancy: Impact on the child's health in the fetal life and the newborn period, and in growing up".
Her main supervisor has been Dr Elisabeth Leirgul, PhD, MD, while the co-supervisors were Professor Nina Øyen and Dr Ferenc Mascali, PhD, MD.
The opposition facilitated a robust academic discussion. The first opponent was Professor Meryam Segulle from Oslo University Hospital/University of Oslo, and the second opponent was Professor Lars Henning Pedersen from Aarhus University Hospital/University of Aarhus. Associate Professor Elham Baghestan chaired the committee from Haukeland University Hospital/UIB.
