Absence
Absence is when you are away from work, such as due to illness, vacation, flextime, or short leaves. Here you can find an overview of different types of absences and who can use them.
Access Card
The card manager at your unit will order the access card for you. When ordered, you must bring your ID to the Card Centre at UiB, who will take a photo of you and finish the process of making the card. More information about how to order access card at UiB here. You will need the card to access UiB buildings, as a library card and to use the printers at UiB.
Benefits and welfare
As an employee at UiB you will have access to several benefits and good welfare offers (cinema, training, cabin hire etc.). Check out the welfare webpage.
Breaches
It is important that breached and adverse events are reported so that UiB can correct errors, follow up on the statutory duty to report to the supervisory authorities, and for learning and improvement. It is therefore important that all forms of breaches and adverse events are registered. Breaches kan be reported in UiBhelp. (Require log in)
Cafeterias
Most faculties and units at UiB have cafeterias, and they are mainly operated by Sammen.
Campus bus
As an employee, you can use the campus bus when traveling between UiB buildings (not for private travel or in conncetion to or from home, etc) Campus bus | Employee Pages | UiB

E-learning courses for new personell, information about language courses and much more can be found at the courses and competence development-page. You need to log in to take a course
Digital mailbox
UiB would like to send letters to your digital mailbox instead of on paper. A digital mailbox is free, environmentally friendly, and provides you with easy access to correspondence from public entities. You can choose between Digipost or e-Boks. Use your electronic ID, such as BankID, and follow the instructions.

Gender Equality and Diversity
The University of Bergen (UiB) is actively engaged in promoting equality and diversity. No one shall experience discrimination based on gender, ethnicity, national origin, language, religion and beliefs, functional abilities, sexual orientation, gender identity or age. Health, safety and environment (HSE)
At the HSE-gateway you will find information about HSE work at UiB.
Holiday
If you start your employment no later than 30 September in the holiday year, you are entitled to full unpaid leave (25 days). If you start later than that, you are entitled to 5 days of unpaid leave. In the year following your employment start at UiB, you will have the right to paid leave. The number of paid leave days you are entitled to will depend on when you started during the year. If your start date was 1 January, you will be entitled to 25 paid vacation days. If you don't have full accrual from the previous year, you will have two quotas created in the Self-Service Portal, "Paid holiday" and "Unpaid holiday," totaling 5 weeks (25 days). You have both a right and an obligation to take vacation, and you must apply for it in the Self-Service Portal by 1 May.

International centre
UiB's International centre is a competence centre for staff and students. They can assist you if you for example are an incoming employee or planning a research stay abroad.

Multi-factor authentication
UiB has implemented Multi-factor authentication for all employees and students. You need to set this up yourself once you have activated your user account. Read more about how to activate multi-factor authenitcation here. (Require log in)

As an employee at UiB, or as an accompanying partner, you can participate in our free Norwegian language courses. Read more about admission application and our course offerings.

Occupational health service
The occupational health service shall assist the employer, the employees, the working environment committee and safety representatives in creating safe and sound working conditions. More information about the occupational health service here.
Onboarding
Upon starting your position, you will receive an onboarding plan. This plan is created by your manager and shared with you. It outlines the courses you will undergo and the equipment you will need to start your job.

Parental leave
Contact the Serviceteam for Absence and Parental Leave when you are planning for parental leave. The team processes all parental leave applications at UiB. They can set up an appointment with you if you need help with planning your leave and filling out applications to Nav and UiB.
Parking
The university has a limited offer regarding access to parking spaces. You can read more about parking options here.
For environmental reasons and due to the limited availability of parking spaces, the university encourages staff and students to reduce car usage
Pension
If you are employed in a 20 % position or more at UiB and are a member of the Norwegian social security scheme, you are a member of the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund (SPK). More information about the membership benefits in SPK here.
Personal Page
All employee automatically receive a personal page on www.uib.no. UiB encourages you to add a portrait photo and update your areas of expertise, both for internal and external use. More information on how to easily create a good personal page can be found here.
Privacy
UiB takes data protection and data security seriously. All our employees and students must undergo a basic course in these two subjects. Click here to start the e-learning course in data protection and data security. You need to log in to take the course.
Printing, copying and scanning
As an employee you can print to the University’s network printers equipped with a card reader, and use copying and scanning functions. More information about printing, copying and scanning here.
Purchases
All purchases are to be made through the university's purchase order management and invoice system. More information about purchases here.
Registration of working hours
If you are employed in a technical or administrative position, you are required to log working hours in the Self-Service Portal. Read more about registration of working hours in the employee handbook. (Require log in)

Safety delegates
The safety delegates look after the employees' interests in matters concerning the working environment. The safety representatives have a supervisory function and are collaborative partners for the management. Information about the safety delegates at UiB and a list of safety delegates can be found here.
Salary
Salary is determined according to the state salary regulations as stipulated in the main collective agreements and in accordance with UiB's salary policy. Salaries are paid on the 12th of each month. If the 12th falls on a weekend or a public holiday, the salary will be paid on the Friday or the last working day before the 12th. (Require log in)

Self service portal
The self-service portal is UiB's electronic solution for personnel and payroll administration, where you can, among other things, view pay slips and annual statements, change your bank account information, record absences, and request travel and expense reimbursements. Technical-administrative staff also record their working hours daily in this portal. Learn more about the self-service portal here. You need to log in to use the self service portal.

Sustainability
The University of Bergen is a research-intensive university where sustainability is, and has long been, a natural and integral part of all of our activities. We focus on sustainability in our research, teaching, innovation and operations.

Tax deduction card
UiB retrieves tax information directly from the Norwegian Tax Administration (Skatteetaten), so you do not need to submit a tax card. If you are new in Norway and not already registered with the Norwegian tax administration you will have to apply for a ta card. Travel
Reduced travelling, especially fewer flights, has a positive impact on the environment and climate, as well as providing economic and time savings. Therefore, everyone at UiB is encouraged to limit their travel activities by monitoring their carbon emissions and setting personal goals to reduce them. Information about travel policies, credit cards, booking travel, travel insurance, and travel settlements can be found here.

Whistleblowing
It is important that employees of the University of Bergen feel confident that they can express themselves regarding problematic circumstances in the organization and that these will be handled and followed up in a good way. The guidelines for reporting censurable conditions are intended to encourage an open culture characterized by good internal communication. You can find the guidelines for whistleblowing at UiB here.
Working hours
Provisions regarding normal working hours can be found both in the Working Environment Act and in the Basic Collective Agreement. Normal working hours for state employees are 37.5 hours per week, cf. Section 7 of the Basic Collective Agreement. (Requires log in)
