The alarm blows, and everyone knows where to meet. During the registration, done by Chief Officer Kjell Sandøy, it shows that one man is missing. A search is accomplished, everyone else are given permission to wait in the control room untill it's over. Then all are offered an opportunity to jump into the sea wearing survivorsuits. Many of the participants and crew joined in and after a while they float as a luminescent cork in the sea. However, a lot of the participants preferred to watch it all from the deck.
When the exercise was over, it was time for photo-shooting on the upper deck. Haflidi use this opportunity to thank for the cooperation and conclude once again that this has been a cruise with good cooperation, good spirits and good results. The entire 2000 km of seabed has been mapped using the TOPAS and 48 samples using the ROV, Multicore, Gravitycore and Boxcore has been taken up from about 700 meters deep. Nyegga have numberless pockmarks and carbonates with a drizzling micro-and makrobiologic life.
We (the teachers and "ship to shore"-writers on this cruise) have had 12 unforgettable days. We have met many wonderful people, got a lot of impressions, and received some ideas for teaching in primary school. We have seen that the different researcher groups have their own ways of working, but that they also have much in common. A lot of samples are collected and coordinated during a successful cruise. We have also been spoilt away with good food on the table every day, we didn't even have to do the dishes. A sincere thanks to the crew of the G.O. Sars.
