Hearing protection
Noise can increase the risk of accidents, contribute to stress and cause hearing damage. Therefore it is important to use hearing protection correctly.

Safety in noisy working environments
Noise may be described as sounds that we experience as being particularly uncomfortable or annoying. These sounds come from machines, engines or other equipment. In addition to damaging hearing, noise may lead to greater stress, discomfort, pain and even heightened risk of cardiovascular illnesses. In addition to steady and prolonged noise, pulsing sounds are particularly hazardous. These are short bursts of sound that are very loud and rapidly increase in volume.
The amount of time a person is exposed to noise is an important factor. In accordance with the Regulation concerning Actions and limit values a daily limit for sound exposure of 80 dB (A) for 8 hours has been set before protective measures shall be implemented. A sound level of 80 dB(A) for 8 hours is comparable to a level of 83 dB(A) for 4 hours. Thus an increase of just 3 dB (A) means that the time shall be cut in half.
Selecting the right hearing protection
The best hearing protection is the one you can use 100% of the time you spend in noisy surroundings. It is enough that you remove the hearing protection for 10 minutes for the protection to be dramatically reduced. A common problem is that many people choose hearing protection that cuts out too much noise. This brings the risk of isolating the person from colleagues' voices, warning signals, etc. It often leads to the person briefly removing the hearing protection to hear better. It is precisely this that may cause hearing damage.
If technical equipment or other sources of noise cannot be shielded, hearing protection shall be used. Earmuffs or ear plugs are recommended hearing protection.
Training in correct use of hearing protection is important for being able to work in a good and safe way. Beards/substantial hair growth can prevent earmuffs from fitting tightly against the ears.
Medical examination
If a risk assessment indicates that you are exposed to noise that is harmful to hearing you will be offered a hearing test.
