INFORMATION ABOUT GRADUATION EXAM IN FINE ART (BAKU 6)

GENERAL INFORMATION

EXAMINATION SEMESTER

Examinations are held in the fourth semester of the master's degree programme, the spring semester.

SCHEDULE

At the start of the examination semester, the departments draws up an examination schedule in consultation with the Faculty administration. The examination schedule clarifies the division of responsibility and tasks between involved members of staff. The schedule is subject to approval by the head of each department.

The examination schedule is announced to the candidates as soon as possible.

REGISTRATION

All student are registered for examinations one year at a time when the requirements for taking

examinations are met:

- Only students who have had the first three semesters of the master's degree programme

approved are entitled to sit the examination in the subsequent semester.

Students at KMD are entitled to three examination attempts cf. § 6.8 of the UiB Regulations.

SUBMISSION

The work presented for grading consists of an art/design part and a written part. The head of department may grant dispensation from the requirement that it must be in writing, in which case the student must demonstrate equivalent qualifications in another manner. See the departments' currently applicable programme descriptions and assessment criteria for more information about the written reflection.

The written reflection shall be submitted in PDF format (portable document format) by the stipulated deadlines, cf. Schedule. If a candidate wants to submit text in paper format, he/she must apply to the head of department by the deadline stipulated in the schedule. The dean may grant dispensation from the requirement for digital submission on the following conditions:

- The master's degree: Five paper copies must be submitted to the department three weeks before grading/examinations start. MA candidates must also submit a digital version in PDF format to the University Library online archive.

WITHDRAWAL FROM EXAMINATIONS

A candidate can withdraw from examinations up to two weeks before the submission date for the written reflection. Withdrawal at a later date is considered a Fail cf. § 6.8 of the UiB Regulations. The student is responsible for registering for a new final exam, normally held next spring semester. In anticipation of the new exam, the student will not have ordinary rights as a student at KMD. The student can withdraw via the StudentWeb, sending written copies to the faculty administration.

RESCHEDULED EXAMINATION DUE TO ILLNESS

If a candidate falls ill during the examination period, the deadline for submission/completion of the examination work can be extended for up to three weeks upon application and with a doctor's certificate enclosed. The examination will then be held as soon as possible. In the event of long-term illness during the semester, students can apply for a rescheduled examination. The application will be considered by the head of department based on the duration of

the period of illness, the requested time for rescheduled examination and whether it is possible for the institution to make expedient examination arrangements.

DEGREE SHOWS AT BA AND MA LEVEL

- Department of Fine Art: All candidates shall exhibit their artistic work at a joint degree show. The works presented for assessment at the examination cannot, without the dean's written permission, be exhibited in their entirety elsewhere until after the degree show has closed.

A FAIL GRADE

A candidate has failed the examination when the examination is awarded a Fail grade. When a Fail grade is awarded, the examiners must state the grounds for their decision in writing. The examiners must inform the dean immediately if a candidate is awarded a Fail grade.

APPEALS/RE-GRADING

When a Fail grade is announced, the faculty must inform the student about his/her right of appeal, cf. the Act relating to Universities and University Colleges. The deadline for appealing is three weeks from the date the grade was announced. Appeals must be submitted in writing and addressed to the faculty administration. When an appeal is received, the department must arrange for a re-assessment by a new committee. Two of the censors must be external while the main tutor remains the internal censor. When an appeal is received, the candidate's work and visual presentation must be re-assessed. The candidate cannot change or modify his/her work during the period up until a new examination is held. The department is responsible for storing the work in the period of time until the new examination is held. The new examination should be announced as quickly as possible. The grade awarded as a result of re-grading cannot be appealed.

PLAGIARISM

Missing references in the written reflection is considered plagiarism, in this context meaning to render the work of others as one’s own. Missing references may be considered a violation of the rule in “Lov om universiteter og høyskoler” (The Norwegian Act relating to universities and colleges) § 4-7, and may result in cancellation of the exam. Proceedings for annulment are decided by UiB’s “Klagenemnd” (Appeals). The national appellate is “Felles klagenemnd” (The joint appeals committee), cf. “Lov om universiteter og høyskoler” § 5-1 7, ref. FOR 2005-10-10 No. 1192: “Forskrift om felles klagenemnd for behandling av klagesaker etter lov om universiteter og høyskoler” (Regulations on joint appeals board for appeals under the Act relating to Universities and Colleges) § 4-7 to § 4-10.
