Main content

Humic water environments are common in the boreal region. Typically, such habitats are characterized by acidic water pH, strong light and oxygen stratification creating a multi-stress environment which is too challenging to many aquatic organisms. In the most extreme cases, such habitats are able to support only one teleost species - the Eurasian perch (Perca fluviatilis). What can we learn from perch? Our research encompasses analyses of habitat-dependent differences in various phenotypes, host-parasite interactions and the search for genomic underpinnings of adaptation to multi-stress environments.
