Supervision Forum for PhD supervisors

Seminar, Supervision Forum for PhD supervisors 30.05.2023

Welcome to the Supervision Forum for PhD supervisors at the Faculty of Social Sciences!

Main content

The 10th edition of the SV’s Supervision Forum will take place 30 May 13.00-14.30 and will focus on the topic Mental health among PhDs. What is the situation, what role has the supervisor, what resources do UiB offer?.

Initial Speaker: Andreas Hillestad Schei (Division of Human Resources)

The reports on mental health among early career researchers (ECR) is alarming. Numbers indicate that between 25- 50% of all PhDs will classify for a psychiatric diagnose. We also know that mental health is closely associated with completion rates, and world-wide 30-50% fail to deliver. With numbers as these, is there any hope? The answer is yes. Despite all the innate challenges which ECR positions, research indicates that the presence of support factors outweighs the negative ones. The relationship with the supervisor appears to be one out of three key factors to take care of ECR mental health and wellbeing.

Join us at this supervision forum for an exploration of how we at UiB can support out ECRs.

The seminar will be held in English.

Welcome!
