All permanent employees in academic positions are entitled to a one year sabbatical after six years’ service, or a 1/2 year sabbatical after three years’ service under certain conditions.
More detailed information about the accrual, awarding and taking of sabbaticals can be found in the Guidelines for the awarding of sabbaticals.
Applications for research sabbaticals must be submitted to the department administration no later than October 1 of the year preceding the academic year in which the planned research sabbatical is to begin.
The following form should be used: Sabbatical application form
The application should include a plan for the sabbatical, and should cover:
- Which research activities, etc., will be carried out
- Project description
- Expected research results
- Place of work during the sabbatical
- Proposal for funding the research project and any overseas stay
The departments then send an overview of who has been granted a research sabbatical and for which period, along with a prioritized recommendation for travel support, to the faculty by December 1. The faculty will send out a template for this via ePhorte.
