“The name change reflects the faculty’s broad technological activities, both in research and education. The faculty continuously works to meet the increasing demand from society and industry for natural scientists and engineers. As the leading educational institution in the region for natural sciences and technology, we experience great interest in our technology-oriented study programs,” says Dean Gunn Mangerud of the Faculty of Science and Technology.

The name change was approved by the University Board on June 4, 2024. This marks the first name change for the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences since its establishment in 1946.

Innovation, Regional Cooperation, and Relevance to the Labor Market

The faculty contributes to innovation, regional cooperation, and technology development. The name change reflects the faculty’s position as an attractive partner for businesses and other key societal actors with a broad portfolio of collaborative projects. The name change is also part of the effort to highlight the relevance of our technology-based study programs to the labor market.

“The faculty contributes knowledge and innovation, among other areas, in climate, food, energy, health, and welfare. We see that development is strongly technology-driven, and we are changing the name to emphasize the faculty’s role in addressing these global challenges,” says Dean Gunn Mangerud.

The faculty offers several technology-oriented study programs, including integrated master’s programs in Energy, Medical Technology, Informatics (Data Science), and Ocean Technology.

Nygårdshøyden South

In the faculty’s area development project Nygårdshøyden South, technology is central. The name change will reinforce the faculty’s role as a center of excellence in natural sciences for the region and the nation.
