The Pandemic Center welcomes you to the first breakfast meeting of the year in Alrek. This time we will be visited by Sajida Ally from the University of Sussex and Alemayehu Hailu from Høgskolen på Vestlandet (HVL).

Sajida Ally will talk about migrant inequalities, mobility and the Covid-19 pandemic in Kuwait:

The presentation will discuss Sri Lankan migrants’ experiences of health vulnerabilities amid a changing landscape of healthcare access and immigration infrastructures during the Covid-19 pandemic in Kuwait. Based on ethnographic and remote methods, it will explore how Covid-containment measures and bordering practices affected health-related subjectivities and migratory choices.

Sajida Ally is a Research Associate in Social Anthropology at the School of Global Studies, University of Sussex, and she is currently working as an International Consultant for a UNFPA study on migrants’ sexual and reproductive health along the Eastern and Southern migratory routes of Africa.

Alemayehu Haili will present findings from his latest research examining the intersection of universal health insurance, global health security and the impact on SARS-CoV-2 infection and mortality rates in Africa. He will also talk about lessons for future pandemic preparedness based on his findings.

Coffee and a snack will be served to everyone who registered.
