Our mandate is to ensure a broad span of academic research, which includes scientific and artistic methods. We support career development through various workshops, seminars, and access to academic resources, including a career centre for early stage researchers.

Welfare

UiB provides modern facilities contributing to a conducive working environment, and is continually working on improving the working conditions for all employees. For our work in providing the best support for our academic staff, UiB has received the HR Excellence in Research award.

There is also a variety of welfare offerings, including access to university cabins in the mountain and near the fjords, as well as discounted tickets for theater performances and concerts. The university also offers a diverse range of sports and fitness activities, choirs, and other cultural programs, with opportunities for physical exercise available during work hours.

The city of Bergen is on the world heritage list with is old wooden houses at Bryggen and one of the oldest ports of North Europe. Although it is a historic city the city is still very much a modern, urban and a living city. Athough Bergen is the second largest city in Norway it is still a small and safe city. Everything in the city is within walking distance, and it is easy to get around with public transport. 

The city is sorrunded by seven mountains, which means that we get a lot of rain, but it also means that the climate is mild and the winters are not too cold. Its location in the western part of Norway also means that it close to the fjords and majestic moutains that many people travel a long distance to visit.

This includes health care, free education, and social security and benefits (such as sickness, parental leave, unemployment and pension). If you come to Norway with a partner and/or family members, they are automatically included in the welfare system.
