Main content

Dr. Thomas Aga Legøy is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Department of Clinical Science, University of Bergen. He successfully defended his doctoral thesis in May 2020, at the University of Bergen. Legøy’s primary research interest lies in understanding the role of
various endocrine cells within the pancreas and their contribution to disease phenotypes in diabetes. Additionally, he investigates how environmental factors influence disease onset and severity.

Dr. Legøy employs multiple transgenic setups and utilizes induced pluripotent stem cells diKerentiated toward pancreatic endocrine cell fate as models to investigate pivotal factors in diabetes development. By integrating various omics analyses, including transcriptomics and proteomics, with physiological assessments and cellular techniques such as immunofluorescence, he explores critical molecules and molecular signals associated with disease onset and severity. His primary focus lies in understanding how exposure to endocrine-disrupting chemicals impacts the onset and severity of diabetes, particularly in a sensitized background like Maturity Onset Diabetes of the Young.
