Norwegian-Polish cooperation on mediation
Professor Anna Nylund visited the Polish Ministry of Justice as a member of a working group on mediation.

Main content
The group, consisting of Norwegian and Polish judges, mediators, academics and policymakers, seeks to identify ways to integrate mediation and other forms of alternative dispute resolution into the Polish civil justice system. The aim is to reduce backlogs, diversify dispute resolution, and render dispute resolution and courts more efficient.
The group found that despite claims that mediation does not sit well in Polish legal culture, there are many pilot projects inside and outside courts. The working group is currently drafting its recommendations for points of action in the short and long term. Building on the momentum of ongoing pilots will be one of the recommendations.
The working group is a joint operation of the Norwegian Courts Administration and the Ministry of Justice of Poland and is funded by EEA Norway Grants and EEA Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway Grants.
