Biel Ventura from the University of Barcelona
Main content
Biel Ventura is currently studying for his bachelor degree in Biomedicine at the University of Barcelona. He is doing an internship in our group for 4 months to write his final project. He joined the Hormone Laboratory Group as he is interested in human health, especially the interactions and processes related to obesity.
In obesity, pro-inflammatory immune cells within adipose tissue contribute to inflammationand insulin resistance. While adipose tissue macrophages (ATMs) are particularly significant, other cell types such as NK cells and T cells have also been implicated. This inflammation in adipose tissue may lead to pro-inflammatory signals in the blood, but the relationship between peripheral blood immune cell populations and obesity-associated insulin resistance remains unclear. During his time with us he aims to characterize the composition, function, and metabolism of peripheral blood immune cells associated with obesity and insulin resistance.
He has also come to Bergen as he loves Norway and its amazing landscape. When he is not in the lab he goes hiking to enjoy the amazing views from the mountain tops and to explore the fjords close to Bergen.
