Research

Cecilie Totland is working on characterisation of cerebellar degeneration related protein 1 (CDR1). It has been reported that some patients with paraneoplastic neurologic degeneration (PCD) harbour antibodies towards CDR1, but the prevalence of these antibodies in patient sera is unknown. Determining prevalence of these antibodies could tell us if CDR1 antibodies have potential to become a new marker for paraneoplastic diseases. The distribution of this protein in different tissues and the function of this protein are also largely unknown. Understanding more about this protein could give improved insight in the mechanisms leading to PCD.

Projects

  1. Determine function and localization of CDR1 protein in different tissues and in cell cultures.
  2. Develop a diagnostic test for detection of CDR1 antibodies in patient sera.
