Analyzes and platform of knowledge

The work with a new strategy starts with a solid platform of knowledge. Through thorough analyzes, UiB's position as an international, research-intensive university will be reviewed, identified and analyzed.

The analyzes, will together with UiB's annual report to the Ministry of Education and Research, form a picture of UiB's current situation.

By looking at the parameters that are important for further developing UiB's profile as a research-intensive university, we will better understand which instruments must be prioritized to ensure that the institution achieves its goals.

The review will be done in all of UiB's core areas, and the analyzes will include time series from the last 10 years. Comparisons will be made with different ratios at UiB and the other Norwegian comprehensive universities. In addition, other internal and external analyzis and evaluations such as UiBFRAM and candidate surveys will constitute an important platform of knowledge.

As part of the preparations for the institution's work on a new strategy, it is also expedient to review UiB's three focus areas. In the review, emphasis will be placed on their significance for interdisciplinary activity, organization, and the status of the different instruments that applies to this focus areas.

«Marine research», «Climate and energy transition» and «Global challenges» will, due to their historical traditions and academic focus, be important areas for UiB also in the years to come.

The state report for higher education collects figures for the university and college sector for the previous year, and points to trends over time. In this year's report, the theme chapter is about diversity and division of labor in the higher education sector. HK-dir prepares the report on behalf of the Ministry of Education and Research.

The report reviews framework conditions for quality in research, sheds light on various aspects that inhibit or promote research quality in the academic environments at UiB, and finally makes recommendations for areas where there is a need for follow-up. An important purpose of UiB FRAM is that the report and the knowledge base should contribute to the faculties' own work to develop framework conditions for quality in research.

This analysis document will be part of the knowledge base for UiB's new strategy. The analyzes will form a picture of UiB, look at relevant development features and discuss measures that are important for securing our core values ​​and further developing UiB's profile.
