Music therapy
Welcome to the University Library subject pages for music therapy
Main content
Here I have gathered the most essential resources and guides you will need as a student in music therapy at the Grieg Academy.
Most digital resources require you to be connected to UiB's network. Follow the instructions in the box on the right to set up a VPN connection on your computer.
Note! The music collection (scores + CD/LP) has new opening hours effective from September 15th:
- Monday: 08:00-15:30
- Tuesday: 08:30-18:00
- Wednesday: 08:00-15:30
- Thursday: 08:00-15:30
- Friday: 08:00-15:30
Books and physical journals are available from 06:00-24:00 throughout the week as long as you have your student card with you.
Literature
Search in Oria for information on shelf placement or access to books and articles.
Printed (physical) books in music therapy are shelved at the 615.85145 number in the library. Other topics in music are found under the 780 number. You can find the number in Oria by clicking on the title in the search results:

E-books and journal articles are accessible by clicking on the link next to "Full text available at:"

Databases
During your studies, you will participate in library courses on literature searches. Here is some information about the most important databases we use, which will be useful for you to know about.
Although some of them are relatively subject-specific, there is some overlap in content. This means that one article can be indexed in multiple databases.
Go to the Oria.no database list, search for the name of the database, and click on the link.
- Medline (Ovid): One of the largest and most important databases for research articles in medicine and health sciences.
- PsycINFO: A database for research articles in psychology.
- RILM: The largest database for literature on music, including a good amount of music therapy.
- Web of Science: A large multidisciplinary database covering medicine, health sciences, social sciences, natural sciences, and, of course, a lot of music therapy.
Note: These databases only contain metadata for the articles, not the articles themselves. This means that the databases provide important information such as authors, the journal that published the article, a summary of it, and keywords describing what it is about. On the search results page for an article, you will find a button indicating whether the University Library has access to this article:

Journals
Here are some of the most important journals for music therapy:
- Voices: A World Forum for Music Therapy
- Nordic Journal of Music Therapy
- British Journal of Music Therapy
- Music Therapy Perspectives
The University Library has open access to these, and you can browse the archive.
Search in Oria: under "Advanced Search" select "Journals" under "Material Type" and click on the link under "Read Online":
