Drum-therapy in Parkinson's disease: Perspectives on neurology, cognition and quality-of-life

Hovedinnhold

Music therapy interventions connect the body, mind, and brain – and are powerful modulators of motor action, cognitive function, and physiological and psychological states. They drive neuroplasticity and stimulate social interaction. Music therapy therefore constitutes an optimal experimental condition to study the interaction between symptoms at different system levels in Parkinson’s disease – “in the wild”, in vivo and over time.

In this talk I will try to connect the dots between very separated fields of science; the arts, medicine, and psychology. The talk will be rooted in a short overview of our ongoing project, where we investigate short- and long-term effects of a drum-kit based music therapy intervention for persons with Parkinson’s disease.
