PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Joint networks can develop extensively in sedimentary layers within basins and have a strong influence on the fluid flow properties of the layered sequences, which is of particular importance in fractured reservoirs. Despite this, there is a lack of understanding of the controls and variations in the spatial and temporal development of such joint networks. This project investigates the development of joint networks in Mesozoic sedimentary rocks from the Somerset coast. The rocks in this area form wave-cut platforms that provide world-class exposures of layered sequences that are extensively jointed with an array of structures including faults and folds. The project combines field observations with analysis of UAV imagery in ArcGIS providing an ideal setting for investigating spatial and temporal variations in joint network development and the controls on the local stresses that affect their development.
