PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Modern depositional environments provide important analogs for ancient sedimentary systems constraining the geomorphological, temporal and spatial character of sedimentary systems in addition to the allogenic and autogenic controls on their deposition and accumulation. A primary objective of the project involves the mapping the distribution and proportions of eolian erg elements occurring within modern sedimentary basins following a custom classification scheme applicable to remote sensing data (after McKee, 1979). Investigating modern eolian system elements at global scale from a quantitative perspective within sedimentary basins will improve our models of eolian depositional environments.
