Hovedinnhold
During 2023 CET continued the work of addressing travel emissions by CET’s researchers. In this new guide, the CET Low-carbon Committee shares tools, tips and knowledge to inspire other researchers and institutions to minimise their climatic footprint.
The guide builds on a survey carried out at CET in 2023, personal stories, data from the centre’s staff, and inspiration from other institutions. We hope to challenge the ubiquity of highly mobile academic careers and provide a practical way of transforming our practices of doing research.
How can academics align their practices with the deep and rapid reductions in emissions required to meet international emissions targets?
Taking a flight is potentially the most carbon-intensive activity an academic undertakes, yet it remains unaddressed in most university climate action plans.
At CET, we recognize our share in contributing to global greenhouse gas emissions from our activities, including air travel and the organisation of conferences and meetings.
In 2019 CET implemented the CET Low-carbon Travel Policy aiming to reduce climate gas emissions from CET activities and inspire similar efforts outside of CET. This policy will be updated in 2024.
As a way of continuing these efforts and revitalising the Low-Carbon efforts after the global COVID-19 pandemic dramatically reduced work-related travel during 2020 and 2021, the CET Low-Carbon Travel Guide was created.
