BBB seminar: Alexander Espinosa

The role of IFN-regulated genes in systemic autoimmunity

Hovedinnhold

Alexander Espinosa

Type I interferons (IFNs) play an important role in systemic autoimmune disease. Levels of type I IFN correlate with disease activity, and symptoms of autoimmunity can be induced by injection of type I IFNs in non-autoimmune individuals. Type I IFN induced signaling triggers the expression of a large number of IFN-stimulated genes, but also the repression of some genes. To understand the role of these IFN-regulated genes in autoimmuity we combine gene expression analysis, in vitro functional studies, and mouse models.
