Call for action

Support the scientists' appeal for the nature deal!

These days, Norway's plan following the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (the Norwegian Action Plan for Natural Diversity) is being discussed in the Norwegian Parliament. Our expectation of this plan was that it would not only describe the status of Norwegian nature, but also take this knowledge seriously by proposing necessary measures to slow down and reverse the loss of nature and natural resources in Norway. Unfortunately, that expectation was not met.

Unfortunately, the Norwegian action plan lacks the concrete, effective, measurable, and time-bound measures that we know are needed to reduce and reverse negative impacts. This means that we will continue to reduce nature's ability to deliver the goods and services we depend on, and increase the risk of particularly dangerous outcomes for society and the Norwegian population. But it is not too late – now the plan will be discussed in the government, and then there is an opportunity for the plan to be upgraded and the ambitions to be sharpened!

Twenty-five Norwegian researchers involved in knowledge processes in support of Norwegian and international nature policy development have written a petition in which we ask that the government be aware of its responsibility and sharpen the measures.

We now invite other professionals and others engaged in or for nature to sign the petition with us. Please tell us about your roles and commitment to nature in the comments field in the petition – this helps to give us weight and breadth. Thank you in advance for your support!
