Master project of Audun Aass Roseth

Project title

Characterisation of epibenthic community structure on the DeepInsight seamount, Arctic Mid-Ocean Ridge

Supervisor

Pedro Ribeiro

Project description

The main aim of this master project is to characterise epibenthic community structure (species diversity, abundance, distribution) at the ‘DeepInsight’ seamount and SMS deposit, combining data from ROV video surveys and integrative taxonomy. The expected results will provide a significant contribution to our general understanding of the diversity and distribution of seafloor habitats on the AMOR, and will be discussed in the context of future management policy for deep-sea mining in the region. Implications for conservation include possible identification of vulnerable habitats prioritised for protection under national or international regulations.
