Main content
Please contact the Service centre for salary, tavel and absence when you are planning your parental leave.
Planning the parental leave
Please contact the Service centre for salary, tavel and absence approximately three months before the start of your parental leave. If you need guidance in the planning process, we are happy to help you, regardless of whether you are the employee planning a parental leave, or a leader with an employee planning a parental leave.
To start planning your parental leave, please send us a message in UiBhjelp.
Meeting and applications
How may the Service centre for salary, travel and absence help you?
We offer everyone a meeting where wil give guidance to both the employee and the leader according to the rules and regulations.
We help you submit the application for parental benefit to both NAV and UiB in the meeting, and will follow your case from the start of the parental leave and until you return to work
If you prefer the guidance in written form, we may help you via UiBHjelp.
We have a coordinating role with the employee, UiB and Nav in the parental leave process and we aim to make sure that the application to UiB and Nav is correct. Consequently, the refund from Nav to UiB will also be correct.
To start planning your parental leave, please send us a message in UiBhjelp.
During the parental leave
If we notice that that your parental benefit does not correspond with your parental leave, we will contact you to clarify the situation.
Changes during the parental leave
The parental leave agreement is only to be changed if unforeseen circumstances should occur. Examples are changes in work situation for you or your partner, your own or child’s illness, lack of childminder or other situations that you could not plan for in the parental leave meeting.
All changes must be agreed upon with UiB before you change your parental benefit with NAV. Please contact the Service centre for salary, leave and absence to inform us of your request for change and we will, in cooperation with your leader, consider if the request can be approved
To request changes in your parental leave, please send us a message in UiBhjelp.
Return to work
We will follow your case until you return to work. Approximately a month before you return we will remind your leader.
Parental leave and staying abroad
You may stay in another country during your parental leave. If you are planning on staying abroad for more than four weeks whilst on paid parental leave, this must be agreed in advance with NAV. To be granted parental benefit from NAV, you must apply for a social security confirmation for your stay abroad.
If you are considering combining work with parental leave abroad, you must have an agreement with your leader for working outside of Norway. If you have further questions regarding membership in the Norwegian social security, or working from abroad, combined with parental leave, contact the International Centre.
