MASTERS PROJECT - RESOURCES / ENERGY

Fault sealing and column height controls in the Gullfaks and Gullfaks Sør fields

This Master's project was designed for Tuva Rovde Frafjord who started her Master's program in Earth Sciences, UiB, in the fall semester 2023. The Master's project is given by the research group Geodynamics and basin studies.

Main content

Project description
The Gullfaks and Gullfaks Sør fields are situated next to each other. They share the same stratigraphy, but Gullfaks Sør is deeper. The thesis will investigate fault sealing in the two fields, and specifically investigate to what extent different sealing properties how can be related to burial depth (at present and at the time of faulting), clay content in the fault zones, strike and throw. Explaining the cause of different abundancies of fault sealing in the two fields will be a main task of the thesis.

The work will include seismic interpretation and model building in Petrel, well log analyses, inspection of pore pressure data for fluid contact identification and basic statistical evaluation of the observations.
