Integrated well, seismic stratigraphic and S2S analysis of Late Jurassic rift margin sourced depositional systems, Western Horda Platform and Southern Lomre Terrace, Northern North Sea

This Master's project was designed for Christine Elise Nicolaysen who started her Master's program in Earth Sciences, UiB, in the fall semester 2023. The Master's project is given by the research group Geodynamics and basin studies.

Project description
Integrated well, seismic stratigraphic and S2S analysis of Late Jurassic rift margin sourced depositional systems. Western Horda Platform and Southern Lomre Terrace, Northern North Sea.

The project will utilize new super regional 3D seismic tied to well, core and biostratigraphic data to unravel the detailed tectono-stratigraphic, sequence stratigraphic and S2S evolution of the Bathonian-Kimmeridgian interval.Focus will be on the westerly termination of the rift margin systems in the 31/1, 31/2, 31/4 and 31/5 blocks where the Horda Platform passes into the faulted terraces of the Southern Lomre Terrace. The student will utilize Petrel and Palaeoscan seismic interpretation software and gain experience in advanced seismic interpretation skills, sedimentological core logging/facies analysis and well log analysis integrated with biostratigraphic data.

Proposed course plan during the master's degree (60 ECTS):
Geov272
Geov361
Geov251
Geov302
Geov360
Geov352
Geov300

Field- lab- and analysis work:
Petrel and Palaeoscan seismic interpretation software and gain experience in advanced seismic interpretation,
sedimentological core logging/facies analysis and well log analysis integrated with biostratigraphic data. Also S2S
evolution of the Bathonian-Kimmeridgian interval.
