Mixing of water in the Faroe Bank Channel

Professor Ilker Fer is leading a new project who is granted more than 10 million NOK from the Research Council of Norway for research on the Gulf Stream.

Main content

The aim of the project Faroe Bank Channel Overflow: Dynamics and Mixing is to obtain more knowledge about the mixing of deep bottom water in the Faroe Bank Channel. The mixing of the cold bottom water is important for the power of the Gulf Stream. It is also relevant for the understanding of currents in other areas.

The watermasses will be studied by the use of robotic and free-manoeuvring sea gliders.
