The landlocked mountainous region of Nagorno-Karabakh is the subject of an unresolved dispute between Azerbaijan, in which it lies, and its ethnic Armenian majority, backed by neighboring Armenia.

We have seen continuous conflicts and turmoil in the region and all peace negotiations have so far failed to produce a permanent peace agreement. Will the newest peace deal agreed upon by both sides finally end the war? We will take a look at the history behind this tense situation, the consequences of Russian interference and that we can expect in the future.
Lene Wetteland is head of the Russia department in the Norwegian Helsinki Committee and an expert on Armenia.
Kåre Johan Mjør is an associate professor at University of Bergen. His research fields include Russian and Soviet history. He is also a researcher at the Western Norway University of applied sciences.
Helge Blakkisrud is a senior research fellow at the Norwegian institute of international affairs. His main research interests include Russian federalism and centre–region relations, in particular, the development of the institution of governors.
Terje Knutsen is an associate professor at the University of Bergen. Some of his research fields include democracy ande democratization in Europe, Russian politics and Eastern European politics.
