Main content

The National Network continuously collects national data on joint prostheses and hip fractures. The Norwegian Arthroplasty Register started to register hip arthroplasties in 1987. The registration was extended to include all types of arthroplasties in 1994 and The Norwegian Hip Fracture Register was established in 2005.

The Network also operates the Norwegian Knee Ligament Register and the The Norwegian Paediatric Hip Register. All the registers have the Norwegian Orthopedic Association as professional owner, while the operation is entrusted to the Orthopedic Clinic, Haukeland University Hospital.

The aim of the registers is to detect inferior implants, cement types, and surgical techniques as early as possible, as well as to provide knowledge about epidemiology. With increased expertise in the professional community and monitoring of the effectiveness of implants and surgical techniques, the quality of treatment is expected to improve.

Research group leader: Ove Furnes.
