Starter Pack - Important tools for educators
Main content
At the University of Bergen, you will find a range of systems, tools, and services you can use to carry out your work tasks. In this overview, we take a closer look at the most important systems you can use as an educator.
Teaching
The most important system for teaching you must know about is Mitt UiB. Mitt UiB is the digital learning platform used at the University of Bergen and is your and the students' entrance to everything that takes place in your course. Here you can communicate with the students by exchanging messages with individual students, sending announcements to entire courses, or holding digital meetings.
In Mitt UiB you will find useful tools for structuring your teaching so that it feels accessible to the students, no matter how big or small your course is. You can keep the course simple with a few modules, assignments, and quizzes, or you can explore the ocean of possibilities that exist with peer reviews and external tools.
With some of the tools you will find in Mitt UiB, you can produce teaching videos and record lectures. Outside Mitt UiB, there are also a number of tools you can use. One of these is Mentimeter, an useful tool to make students more active in your teaching - with many opportunities to engage them with word clouds, multiple-choice questions and much more.
Reading lists
UiB uses Leganto as its digital reading list system. The system is integrated into Mitt UiB, and enables students to easily access the syllabus. Leganto allows you to retrieve material from the library system, external websites/databases, and reference management tools. If there are articles or book chapters in the reading list that are not available electronically for free or via the University Library's subscriptions, you can use Litteraturkiosken, a service that digitises such extracts and makes them available to students.
Assessment
Inspera is a digital system that enables the University to manage and carry out exams online. The system is used for both school and home exams and ensures an organized exam process. As an educator, it is important to collaborate with the administration at the department/faculty in order to plan how the exam will be carried out. In addition, we use the plagiarism control system Ouriginal, which is integrated into Inspera to ensure that the students' work is original and free of plagiarism.
