Master class (final seminar)

All PhD candidates are offered a final seminar, called master class. When the candidate has come far enough with the dissertation (approx. 80%), an external professional is invited to read and comment on material from the dissertation. The master class is structured as a seminar where the candidate first presents the dissertation (approx. 15 minutes), before the floor is given to the master who comments and discusses the written material with the candidate. The master class is open to interested parties, and the audience is invited to contribute to the discussion. The master is often invited to give a guest lecture in connection with the master class.

The master class is arranged in collaboration between the candidate, their supervisor and the research school's management. Candidates who want a master class must discuss this with the supervisor and / or the research school's management.

The research school covers expenses for fees, travel and any accommodation for the master. Candidate, supervisors and master are also invited to a simple lunch in connection with the final seminar.

Membership

New PhD candidates in linguistics and philology are usually contacted by the research school's leaders, and they are added to the research school's member list and email list.

The research school's activities are an offer for the PhD candidates. The candidates are expected to join a research school and contribute to the activities. Questions regarding membership and mailing list can be directed to the administrative contact person for the research school.
